As a surgeon working with his hands, Dr. Abrams recognizes the importance of maintaining the function and dexterity of the hands and upper extremities for his patients. Dr. Abrams is a board-certified orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgeon focusing on disorders of the hand, wrist, and elbow. He works with patients to attain their unique goals whether it is to return to work, sport, or just the activities of daily living. He performs the most advanced procedures available including minimally invasive surgery, arthroscopy of small joints, and wide awake surgery without anesthesia. Dr. Abrams has developed novel procedures for treating hand arthritis, and he provides a range of evidence-based nonsurgical treatment options.

After completing his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Abrams earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Dr. Abrams then elected to pursue further training in surgery of the hand and upper extremity from the prestigious Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in Indianapolis.

He focuses on providing good perioperative pain control while limiting the number of narcotic pain medications needed, using evidence-based, opioid-sparing pain control protocols.

In addition to his private practice in Asheville and Hendersonville, Dr. Abrams has taken part in medical aid and surgical training trips to the Dominican Republic, Thailand, and Nicaragua.

Dr. Abrams lives in the Asheville area with his wife and their two children. Outside of work, he continues to enjoy the sports he grew up playing like basketball and soccer.  Since moving to the mountains he has also started exploring other hobbies such as hiking, paddle boarding, and has become an avid One Wheeler.
